The purpose of the Peer mentoring program is to help incoming students adjust to life at University of West Georgia and the Honors experience by enhancing group support and community within the Honors College.
Peer mentors are current upper division students in the Honors College that work with groups of 5-10 newly admitted Honors College students throughout the academic year.
In addition to small group meetings and events determined by the mentor/mentee groups, the Peer Mentors also work with the Honors Council, the student governing body of the Honors College to plan several large-scale meetings and community engagement events and help facilitate student involvement in these activities.

Listed below are descriptions of the Honors College Peer Mentoring Groups for the 2019-2020 Academic year. The Mentors are listed by theme names.
YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND IN ME
Grace Beagles, English Major "Hi! My name is Grace Beagles and I am an English major and Creative Writing minor. I am looking forward to serving as your mentor and helping you in any way possible. This group might be for you if you love watching funny movies or TV shows like The Office or Friends. Most importantly, this group will focus on building friendships and utilizing various campus resources to make your experience at UWG the best it can be!" |
HONORABLE PERFORMERS Elena Mayfield, Psychology Major "Hi! I'm Elena, a Psychology major at UWG! Are you passionate about theater or music? Whether you just enjoy music and theater or you love being part of it, this is the group for you! My goal is to create a space for creative students to share their love for the performing arts and bond over anything from Hamilton to Panic! at the Disco or songwriting- and anything in between. If music and theater are important in your life, I'd love to get to know you throughout your first year here at UWG!" |
THE DEE HIVE Destinee Muldrow, Business Management Major "Hi! My name is Destinee, and I am a Business major. With my major, I hope to start my own graphic design business. Being part of an entrepreneurial family inspires me to go for my dreams, and I hope to encourage you to do the same. If you enjoy singing, dancing, and listening to music from R&B to Pop genres, then this may be the group for you. I look forward to connecting with those with the same interest and similar major." |
LET'S GET DICEY Kari Wood, English Major "Hi! My name is Kari. I'm an English major, but that doesn't mean all I like to do is write papers! Even Honors College students need a break. Let's Get Dicey is about having fun and building community through playing board games, card games, and other party games. I'd also like to help you adjust to college life and make West Georgia feel like a home away from home." |
THE WELL-ROUNDED WOLVES Gracie Neely, Accounting and Business Management Major "There is nothing more intimidating than figuring out how to juggle all of your responsibilities as a first year student. Moving out, scholastics, social life, and other extracurricular activities can overwhelm even the best students. My name is Gracie Neely, and my mentoring group will focus on becoming and being your best in every aspect of the college life. I am a double major in accounting and business management and I am a Chemistry Workshop Leader. A balanced lifestyle is very important to me as I am a social butterfly who loves to go to the gym, but also values my scholastics highly! I would love to help guide you into having a well-balanced and stress free (as possible) college experience." |
HONORS OUTSIDE Malachi Ivey, Mathematics Major "Hi, I'm Malachi. I am an Applied Mathematics major. Do you like to be outside? Do you want to explore outside but don't know where to start? Here at Honors Outside we strive to suit everyone's needs no matter the experience or skill level. We'll shred the knar with sick climbing, awesome trail hiking, and rad bike rides! We'll take group trips with West Georgia Outdoors. Get ready to make friends and memories!" |
THE FREE THINKERS Brooke Foster, Psychology Major 'Hi! My name is Brooke Foster and I am a Psychology major, minoring in Gender and Sexuality Studies. If you have a passion for thinking outside the box and questioning the world around you, this is the group for you. Here we value creativity, open mindedness and acceptance. I think it is extremely important to be able to look at different perspectives and to be open to different opinions and lenses through which to view the world. This group can help make your first year a little easier by giving guidance and providing a supportive atmosphere. I look forward to meeting you all!" |
