Purpose of Degree Programs
The undergraduate degree in history is aimed at providing the student with a
strong liberal arts background advantageous for any number of career choices.
The graduate program is designed to prepare students for the teaching of history
on the junior college level; to provide the initial graduate work for those who
intend to pursue a doctoral degree; to enhance the preparation of secondary
teachers of history who desire to meet certification requirements, or to prepare
students for careers in public history.
Collecting Parameters
Language: code level E.
Date of Publication: current, in-print publications emphasized; some
retrospective purchasing; complete runs of journals.
Chronological Coverage: ancient times to the present.
Geographic Coverage: emphasis on U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America.
Formats Preferred: specialized monographs, journals, selected microforms, and
newspapers. Appropriate bibliographic tools, memoirs, government documents,
society and association publications are needed.
