Books
Books dealing with Chinese history (DS741-779) can be found by searching the online catalog. For
relevant subject headings consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Journals
Journal articles on Chinese history can be found in the following journals: Asian Survey,
Beijing Review, Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies, Journal of Asian Studies, Journal of World History,
Journal of Modern History, Southeast Review of Asian Studies.
Browsing, however, is not the best approach to locating articles on a particular topic. Some of
the indexes to use are: Historical Abstracts (Ingram Library database), Academic Search
Premier (Galileo database), JSTOR (Ingram Library database), Humanities Index (Galileo
database),
Social Sciences Index (Galileo database), Research Library from ProQuest (Galileo database),
International Political Science
Abstracts.
Government Documents
Government publications are useful for materials dealing with U.S. foreign relations with China
and other countries, trade agreements and co-operative arrangements. Sources for useful documents are as
diverse as the Department of Agriculture, the State Department, and various committees of Congress. Many of
these are listed in the Ingram Library Online Catalog. The Monthly Catalog (Galileo database) is an
excellent place to start a search for government documents.
Atlases
The atlas shelves in the Reference area on the main floor of the Ingram Library contain a good
selection of current and historical atlases. Some atlases use alpha-numeric coordinates. Others use latitude
and longitude to give locations.

Author Information
Sometimes this is difficult. If the following titles don't help, ask a Reference Librarian.
Occasionally there is nothing written about an author beyond a sentence or two in a book review.

look up an author's name, then look in the volume of the set to which it refers you.]
