thousands of publications, directories, and web resources. Users can browse by
species, ecological systems, or type of web publication.
- CephBase
(http://www.cephbase.dal.ca/). The purpose of CephBase is to provide life
history, distribution, catch and taxonomic data on all living species of
cephalopods (octopus, squid, cuttlefish and nautilus). CephBase is created and
maintained by James B. Wood & Catriona L. Day under the supervision of Dr.
Ron K. O'Dor, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
- Cichlid Fishes of Lake Malawi,
Africa (http://malawicichlids.com/). This site provided by a
professional ichthyologist, has numerous links to material on cichlids and
their incredible diversity. This site has been noted for its' excellent
up-to-date bibliography on cichlids and their evolutionary significance.
- FishBase
(http://www.fishbase.org/home.htm). Developed at the International Center
for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) in collaboration with the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and with
support from the European Commission (EC), FishBase is a relational
database which contains information on more than 23,000 finfish. The data
clearinghouse has compiled a wealth of facts, from distribution maps to
swimming speeds.
- LarvalBase
(Fish Larvae)
(http://www.larvalbase.org/). Funded by the German Ministry for Economic
Cooperation and Development, this site was begun in close conjunction with
FishBase to aid in the identification of fish larvae and provide
information on rearing techniques.
- ReefBase
(http://www.reefbase.org/main.aspx). A project of WorldFish Center and the
International Coral Reef Action Network (ICRAN), ReefBase "is the world's
premier online information system on coral reefs, and provides information
services to coral reef professionals involved in management, research,
monitoring, conservation and education."
- Scripps Institution of Oceanography
(http://www-sio.ucsd.edu/). Affliated with the University of California at San Diego,
this site contains numerous links to information related to the marine sciences
including links to the websites of current researchers.
