- Center for North American Herpetology
(http://www.cnah.org/). This site provides information on species, societies,
and current research.
- Amphibian
Species of the World
(http://research.amnh.org/herpetology/amphibia/index.html) Provided by
the American Museum of Natural History, this site is an ongoing attempt to
catalog the living amphibian species of the world. The database can be
searched by classification or distribution of given amphibian.
- AmphibiaWeb
(http://elib.cs.berkeley.edu/aw/). AmphibiaWeb is an online resource for
people concerned with the declining amphibian problem. The site is sponsored by the
Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California Berkeley, the Declining
Amphibian Populations Task Force, associated with the Open University Ecology and
Conservation Research Group, and the Turner Foundation.
- EMBL
Reptile Database
(http://www.reptile-database.org/). Begun in 1995
at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, now updated by
Zoological Museum Hamburg, this database provides taxonomic information (such as synonyms and
distribution) on nearly all 8200 species in the Class Reptilia.
Photos of more than 1000 species are also accessible.
- Turtles of the
World (http://emys.geo.orst.edu/). This prototype site provided by
several professionals will eventually offer a global database of turtle
and tortoise distribution. Currently data for most species except those in
North America are presented.
