Genetics
- DOEgenomes.org
(http://www.ornl.gov/hgmis). Human Genome Project Information, sponsored
by the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Energy, is a
fantastic compilation of detailed information. Organized under six major
sections--About, Education, Research, Medicine, Ethical, Legal and Social
Issues (ELSI), and Media--the site allows users to focus quickly on the
type of material wanted.
- Genetics
Education Center
(http://www.kumc.edu/gec/). Assembled by the Genetics Education Center of Kansas
University Medical Center, a number of related sites with pertinent information are
organized under appropriate headings. This is a rich source for educators and
students from the secondary level to graduate programs.
- Genome Channel
(http://grail.lsd.ornl.gov/channel/). This "road atlas" for finding genes
is a series of interface tools for visualization and querying the
reference human genome and other genomes assembled and annotated by the
Genome Annotation Consortium (GCA).

Glossary of Genetic Terms
(http://www.weihenstephan.de/~schlind/genglos.html). This glossary allows
you to search for genetic terms in two different ways. It is maintained by
Dr. Birgid Schlindwein at the Technische Universitat Munchen -
Weihenstephan.
- Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and
Genomes (http://www.genome.ad.jp/kegg/). Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and
Genomes (KEGG) is an effort to computerize current knowledge of molecular and
cellular biology in terms of the information pathways that consist of interacting
molecules or genes and to provide links from the gene catalogs produced by genome
sequencing projects. The KEGG project is undertaken in the Institute for Chemical
Research, Kyoto University with supports from the Ministry of Education, Science,
Sports and Culture, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Science
and Technology Agency.
- National Human Genome Research
Institute (http://www.nhgri.nih.gov/). Information about the Human
Genome Project and genomic and genetic research links are available at
this National Institutes of Health site. This is a good starting point
for almost anything genetic.
- Transgenic
Crops: An Introduction and Resource Guide
(http://www.colostate.edu/programs/lifesciences/TransgenicCrops/). This
Web site originating from Colorado State University provides an excellent
summary of the work being done on transgenic crops and offers many useful
linkages to other resources on the technology and issues surrounding
transgenic crops. It will serve as a very useful resource guide for anyone
interested in the production and utilization of genetically modified
organisms (GMOs).
