Display Policy
Ingram Library maintains exhibit cases and display boards in
several areas of the library.
The actual exhibits/displays should be appropriate to an academic setting,
support the curriculum and/or instructional missions of Ingram Library and
the State University of West Georgia, and/or reflect Ingram Library
collections and services. (Examples: campus sports, history of UWG, campus
watershed project, women's history month, the right to vote, library
literacy.)
Exhibits/displays may reflect the unique personal expression(s)
and composition ideas of the displayer, respective of the ACRL policy,
"Freedom of information and of creative expression should be reflected in
library exhibits and in all relevant library policy." (ACRL Intellectual
Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries, item #7.)
The display sites on the main floor are to be scheduled by a
representative of the Instructional Services Division. All librarians
will be expected/encouraged to present exhibits highlighting materials in
liaison departments. The display sites in Special Collections are to be
maintained by the Special Collections staff and the display sites for
Government Documents are to be maintained by the Government Documents
staff. The person or department responsible for planning and setting up a
display or an exhibit is also responsible for removing materials within
two days of the end of the scheduled time.
The Ingram Library budget includes a reasonable amount of money
for each case for each year. With the exception of a few basic items,
such as push pins and scotch tape, the library will not provide supplies
or equipment necessary to mount displays from outside the library.
Main floor display area sites are to be changed at least twice
during a semester. Special Collections and Government Document display
sites are to be changed at least once during a semester.
A form is to be filled out by the prospective displayer no less
than 2 months prior to the display date. This will include the identity
of the displayer and a brief description of the theme
and/or contents of the proposed exhibit, as well as the proposed dates of
the exhibit and contact information. The form will also have a space for
requesting funds and the reason for such a request.
The display cases will be locked, with the keys being kept in the
safe behind the circulation desk.
